What's new2004: This web page is no longer needed. Please reset your link directly to www.economics.nrcs.usda.gov. March 19, 2004: A new on-line economics network, The EconDoc Exchange (EconDocs), is now available for use. This network enables persons to build, edit, store, and exchange economics documents. The initial documents include professional profit and cost estimates. The site comes with an on-line Help Guide (under About EconDocs) which should be read before interacting with the network. January 30, 2004: The third draft of the 'Agriculture, Conservation' economics data standards has been posted to EconDocs . Needs a couple more iterations before start up. November 29, 2003: The second pilot testing of The EconDoc Exchange took place in Texas this week. Thanks to the participants at the Blacklands Research Center for providing valuable feedback. The major results: a) guides want to use other guides' data, b) web form data entry is not Windows data entry -it takes about 2 days of work to begin using this on-line software in a serious way, c) the default data (i.e. interest rates, ag machinery constants) and standards need to be cleaned up for a version 1.0 release, d) older browsers (IE 5) need to be upgraded before using the software, and e) the business model may be sound, but given resource and customer realities, it may be best to start slow. November 17, 2003: The second draft of the 'Agriculture, Conservation' economics data standards has been posted to The EconDoc Exchange . Comments and criticisms are welcome. November 7, 2003: The first pilot testing of The EconDoc Exchange took place in Iowa this week. Thanks to ARS, NRCS and Cooperative Extension staffs for providing valuable feedback. The good news -EconDocs works. The bad news -EconDocs works. October 1, 2003: EconDocs' sample profit and cost estimates have been upgraded. The approximately 25 samples can be accessed through the hyperlinks below. We still discourage people from linking to this network until testing is done. September 11, 2003: The first draft of the 'Agriculture, Conservation' economics data standards has been posted to The EconDoc Exchange . Comments and criticisms are needed. July 16, 2003: The EconDoc Exchange network still needs substantial pilot and performance testing, but it will be demonstrated during the American Agricultural Economics Association July meeting in Montreal, CN. Please drop by the USDA, NRCS booth for a demonstration. June 12, 2003: The EconDoc Exchange Help Guide (pilot 1) . |
